What Is CEREC?

Machine creating a dental crown from a small block of ceramic

CEREC, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, is an advanced technology that uses specialized computer software to design your same-day crown in Ridgefield and an in-office milling unit to create the crown. The CEREC system is comprised of three interconnected parts. The first is an intraoral camera that creates a visual impression of your tooth. This conveniently takes the place of a molded impression that was always necessary with a traditional crown.

Second is CEREC’s computer system and software. The optical impression is transferred here, and the software manipulates the image to create a 3D representation of your tooth. Your customized dental crown is designed based on this representation. The system is extremely precise, so your new crown will fit and match your tooth perfectly.

Finally, there is the CEREC milling unit, which is equipped with special burs that carve your crown from a single block of ceramic in about 20 minutes. If necessary, we can touch-up the finish before the crown is cemented over your tooth.

The Benefits of CEREC Dental Crowns

A CEREC same-day crown not only preserves an otherwise damaged tooth but also improves your smile. Because CEREC same-day crowns are designed to match the color, size, and shape of your teeth, no one will be able to tell you have restorations. They look as natural as your real teeth.

Caring for Your Same-Day Crown

In general, a tooth encapsulated with a CEREC crown requires the same care as one of your natural teeth. You’ll need to brush and floss daily and schedule regular checkups with your dentist in Ridgefield. Be sure to clean carefully where the crown meets the gumline because plaque tends to accumulate here. Also, try to avoid biting down on hard foods with your CEREC same-day crown.

If you need a porcelain crown to cover a broken tooth, or to protect a tooth that has recently undergone root canal treatment, then please take advantage of the CEREC one-hour crown services we offer at Ridgefield Perfect Smile Center.

Understanding the Cost of CEREC Dental Crowns

Instead of having to attend separate dental appointments a couple of weeks apart, CEREC dental crowns allow patients to get their new restoration during a single visit. Since everyone’s treatment is a little bit different, the cost can vary. During your appointment, we can go over the cost of your treatment in detail so that you don’t run into any surprises. Until then, here are some things to keep in mind.

Factors That Affect the Cost of Dental Crowns

Here are some of the factors that can affect the cost of your CEREC dental crown:

  • Severity of Damage: If you need another treatment before getting your dental crown, like a filling or root canal, this will have its own cost.
  • Location of Tooth: Crowns that are in the front of the mouth are usually less costly because they don’t require as much material as crowns in the back of the mouth.
  • Materials Used: CEREC crown cost may vary depending on what type of material is chosen.

Remember that the cheapest dental crown isn’t usually the most ideal. Quality is very important when it comes to your restorations. You want your crown to be both structurally sound and visually appealing.

Does Dental Insurance Cover Dental Crowns?

Dental insurance form

Dental crowns are usually considered by dental insurance providers to be “major restorative treatments.” This means that it is covered at about 50% after your annual deductible has been met and before your maximum has been exceeded. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your plan and what it covers, don’t hesitate to reach out to one of our friendly team members.
