Thankfully, a local dentist has some helpful tips that will aid in\nprotecting your child\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.danajonesdds.com\/childrens-dentistry.html\">oral health<\/a>\nand to ensure an evening full of treats without the tricks! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Danger of Overindulging in Candy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While a night full of eating sweet delights is a kid\u2019s dream\ncome true, the reality is that oral bacteria love to feed on the leftover\nsugar. As the microorganisms begin to digest the leftover particles, they\nrelease caustic fluids that can bore holes into the enamel (the outer-layer of\nthe teeth) over time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To prevent this from happening, there are some precautionary\nsteps that can be taken that will allow your little one to enjoy the\nfestivities in a carefree manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip #1 \u2013 Set a Candy Limit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no doubting the fact that your child will have\naccess to far more candy than he or she can consume. Still, it\u2019s important to\nset some limits for how much candy can be consumed that night. The bottom line\nis that the less sugar there is present, the better the chances are of keeping bacteria\ngrowth under control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip #2 \u2013 Encourage Excellent Dental Hygiene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before Halloween gets here, you can set some expectations\nabout the type of dental hygiene that your child should be performing. Here are\nthe two habits that should be emphasized the most:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Brushing <\/strong>\u2013 By brushing for at least two\nminutes twice a day, resilient oral bacteria can be held in check.<\/li><li><strong>Flossing <\/strong>\u2013 Because brushing can\u2019t\ncompletely clean teeth by itself, it\u2019s a must to use dental floss as well. The\nflexible material will allow your child to get into the tight spaces between\nthe teeth where sugar particles and bacteria can hide.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip #3 \u2013 Keep Some Water on Hand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Between eating any treats, if your child drinks water, it\nwill help to flush away any debris that may try to cling to the teeth and gums.\nIt can also help to curb any sugar cravings so your child naturally eats less\ncandy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip #4 \u2013 Schedule a Dental Checkup<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is an excellent time to take your child in for a dental\nvisit, which will include a cleaning that will remove any lingering plaque or\ntartar. Following that, his or her teeth and gums will be carefully examined to\nmake sure there are no challenges on the horizon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As another way to prevent cavities, the dentist can apply\ndental sealants, which are plastic coatings that make it harder for bacteria to\ncling to the teeth.
