An often undetected problem, gum disease (also known as periodontal disease) is an infection of your gums caused by plaque. Signs of the disease may include bleeding gums, tenderness and/or swollen gums, persistent bad breath, or tooth loss. Gum disease can be present without any of these signs, however, which makes regular checkups all the more important.
If we do discover gum disease during your checkup, we will provide a 3 to 4 month recall schedule to monitor your gum health and help determine the appropriate treatment for your situation. For those patients who require more extensive gum disease care, we will refer you to a periodontist with whom Ridgfield Perfect Smile Center will work closely throughout your treatment.
